A Letter To Graduating Athletes

Graduating Athletes

Athletes Graduation

Congrats on finishing your final year of Varsity Sport.

You may be experiencing a sense of excitement or fear for what lies ahead. You may even be feeling a sense of mourning for a loss of your athletic identity that has defined you for the last 20 years.

Now what?

Allow yourself to feel all of these things.

But, mark an X on your calendar for the day you decide to transfer your passion from your sport to your career.

Calendar

You see all of the good, bad, ugly and amazing experiences you have had playing your sport has given you the tools you need to create the success you want in your life.

Employers are looking for people like you. ATHLETES.

Why you might ask?

Because as an athlete you know how it feels to be the worst or most inexperienced person on a team.

You know the amount of work, passion and dedication it takes to master a new skill and prove yourself to your new team because you have done it year after year.

You are not a stranger to hard work. In fact, you expect it.

3

You are not afraid of failure because you know failing over and over again and being able to get back up is the path to success.

Failure

You know how to be a teammate, a role player, a cheerleader and a leader on and off the floor.

Teammates

You know how to work through pain or a raging fever and still perform at your highest level.

You know that early is on time and on time is late.

You know that you need to respect a competitor because you have realized that the only person you really compete against is yourself.

You know how to work under pressure in fact you thrive in that environment.

You know how to deal with a poisonous teammate or a person in authority you do not like and still find a way to excel.

You know that to be really successful you need to do way more than is required and work hard no matter who is watching.

Work Hard Even If No One Is Watching

It is time to transfer your passion from the athletic world and pour it into your career.
